Cass began creating jobs for people with significant barriers to employment during the recession of 2007. When you shop with Green Industries, you are helping to provide work for adults who have developmental disabilities, mental illnesses, physical restrictions or who have formerly experienced homelessness, war, or prison.

What’s more, items produced at Green Industries are good for the environment. All of the products repurpose or recycle material that would otherwise end up in a landfill, the city incinerator or remain part of the garbage and blight on vacant lots in Detroit.

Green Industries products include mudmats, Detroit Treads (both made from recycled tires), recycled glass coasters, and Old English D keychains.

Founded in 2014, the mission of the Cass Community Publishing House is to give a voice to writers from groups who are under-represented by the five major publishing companies and to offer a spotlight for religious and urban issues. Books by CCPH will include history, biography, photography, novels and poetry. CCPH provides employment opportunities and a higher rate of compensation than traditional publishing companies to authors. CCPH also creates a funding stream for social programs. Profit from the sales of CCHP books benefit the work of Detroit nonprofits including but not limited to Cass Community United Methodist Church and Cass Community Social Services. Rev. Faith Fowler is the publisher.
