Developmental Disabilities

Day Programs for the Developmentally Disabled and Mentally Ill

Skill Building Program:

Services to the developmentally disabled began in 1986 with a social recreation program.  Current programming focuses on adults who are mild to moderately diagnosed with a host of community interaction activities in preparation for employment and or volunteer services.  An occupational therapist is on staff to assess abilities and assist in the creation of individual goals for each participant.  The program operates each weekday from 8:00am to 4:00pm.  Transportation is available within limits.  Lunch is provided. This program services residents of Detroit, Hamtramck and Highland Park.

Eastside Ministries:

This is a skill building program for adults diagnosed with mental illness and/or  a mild to moderate developmental disability. This program offers a more intimate setting with full services including an occupational therapy assessment, participant goal setting, community interaction, limited transportation, lunch and volunteer opportunities. The program operates each weekday from 8:00am to 4:00pm. Historically the program has served individuals living in adult foster care homes on the eastside of Detroit. Participants are now accepted from all of Detroit, Hamtramck and Highland Park.

Both programs are funded through the Managed Care Provider Network of the Detroit Wayne County Community Mental Health Agency and certified by CARF, the Commission for Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities
